Na-ion battery-the future of Energy Storage?or cost effective partial alternative?
Recently, there has been a hot discussion about the prospect of the sodium ion battery industry. as a battery enthusiast, I would like to talk about some ideas other than technical features:
Advantages of sodium ion battery
1. 20% lower cost.
2. Good high and low temperature performance:-40 °C-80 °C.
3. Good safety: less instantaneous heat and better stability, the positive electrode can be discharged to 0V without affecting the subsequent use.
4. Fast charging speed: charging up to 80% in 15min.
5. Cathode materials: Cu-Fe-Mn-based and Ni-based have large reserves and are easy to obtain.
Disadvantages:
1. The energy density is 180-200Wh/kg, which is much lower than that of lithium 260Wh/kg(still in promoting).
2. The number of cycles is 2,000, which is lower than that of 6,000 lithium batteries which result in higher cost of comprehensive comsumption.
Conclusion:
Energy density could not be suitable for 3C and power batteries. It can be an good alternative for energy storage and low-speed electric vehicles to replace VRLA/SLA batteries.
As a lover of the battery industry, fundamentally speaking, I hope to maintain the technological progress of the industry and the wider application of products. Green energy is also a fundamental revolution, which can completely benefit the living environment of human beings, besides leaving development room for our next generation.
My Wish:
The participation of capital should invest more in technological research and development and market subsidies instead of engulfing the whole industrial chain by hyping raw materials, this is extremely short-sighted, which not only kills the job opportunities of this industrial chain, but also hinders the ultimate goal of the development of the industry.
